Karen Terpstra is a teacher, ceramist, and writer, who regularly gives slide lectures and workshops regarding wood firing in the United States and other countries. She has given numerous workshop/slide lectures since 1993 throughout the country and including Ghana, Japan, and Australia. She has exhibited her work on a national and international level. Karen has written several articles for Ceramics Monthly, Art and Perception, Pottery Making Illustrated, Clay Times, Ceramic Technical, and more. In 1997 Karen built the first Train Wood Kiln at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Since then she has built a two-chamber sprung arch wood kiln and a gas-fired salt kiln for the UW-L ceramics program.
